Healthy Eating Choices Linked to Higher IQ in Children

A study funded by The UK Medical Research Council and carried out by researchers from Bristol University looked at the effects of unhealthy and healthy eating diets on children's IQ. The research is based on how often children ate different food groups at the ages of three, four, seven and eight and a half. The researchers assessed the children's IQ during the final assessment to see the relation between healthy eating and intelligence.

The results indicated that a diet high in sugar, fats and processed foods at the age of three was associated with a lower IQ at eight and a half years. There was also a link between healthy eating diets, including salads, vegetables, fish, pasta and rice at 8.5 years and having a higher IQ due to the healthy eating choices at the same age.
