Healthy Pregnancy Nutrition – Tips for To-be Mothers

One of the most important things for a healthy pregnancy is diet. Women need to make sure that they eat a healthy, well-rounded diet. Mothers should eat natural foods. Processed foods, like granola bars, frozen dinners, or crackers contain a lot of preservatives, salt and other additives that are not healthy for the baby. Healthy pregnancy nutrition would include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and legumes.

A pregnancy diet is unique because pregnant women need higher levels of certain foods and vitamins. Pregnant women need high levels of calcium and iron for the growth of the baby as well as to increase the blood in the mother's system. Protein needs increase during pregnancy for nourishing the placenta.

Another tip for a healthy pregnancy is to eat smaller, more frequent meals instead of the normal three-meals-a-day.
