Vitamin D Is Safe For Healthy Pregnancy.

A recent study by the Medical University of South Carolina has found out that vitamin D is safe for healthy pregnancy. The study has put to rest any doubts, what so ever, of the vitamin being harmful to the pregnant woman.
The common theory is that women should not intake vitamin D in large amounts due to severe misconceptions. It could also damage the foetus and terminate the healthy pregnancy. The amount of the vitamin to be taken was fixed at 200 units by Dr. Gilbert Forbes way back in 1963.
The study was undertaken on 350 women from differing backgrounds and who were grouped randomly into three groups. All the women had a healthy pregnancy and were 12 to 16 weeks into the gestation period.
During the study, the groups were given dosages of 400, 2000 and 4000 units respectively every day. The results were surprising considering that even the group subjected to maximum doses maintained their healthy pregnancy. The newborns born from the group were also healthy. The study concluded that doses of 4000 units were required to sustain the metabolism of the women with healthy pregnancy.
