A Healthy Pregnancy Diet

A healthy pregnancy diet is very important for the mother as it plays a major role in influencing the health and well being of the unborn child. A well planned and balanced diet helps the mother to cope up with the myriad of physical and mental changes that take place in her body during pregnancy.
The pregnancy diet should provide the mother with good nutrition to help her nourish the unborn child. A well balanced pregnancy diet should include 6-11 servings of cereals, 3-4 servings of protein rich foods and four or more servings of vegetables.
A healthy pregnancy diet should comprise of food stuffs that are rich in calcium, iron, folic acid, vitamin C and other minerals. At least 4-5 servings of dairy products should be included in the diet to meet the extra calcium requirement during pregnancy.
The diet during pregnancy should also include iron rich food stuffs such as green leafy vegetables, pumpkin, spinach, dry fruits, nuts and beets. It is very essential to include food stuffs rich in vitamin C such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, papaya, sprouts.
