Heavy Caffeine Intake May Lead To Smaller Babies

Previous research on coffee indicated that not more than 3 cups of coffee per day is still safe for pregnant women. When I was pregnant with my son, I wanted to ditch coffee altogether. On difficult days (read: i terribly miss coffee days), I succumbed to one cup of coffee a day.
Now, according to new findings, heavy caffeine intake in pregnant women may lead to smaller babies. Pregnant women who take six cups of coffee a day may have smaller babies than those who consume less caffeine. The study however was on a small number of babies, therefore the findings may not be significant
Reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the findings add to the conflicting body of research on whether caffeine during pregnancy affects fetal growth.
