More Teens Use Rhythm For Birth Control

A CDC survey of 2,800 teens in the United States (pdf file, released Wednesday) revealed that more teens are turning to rhythm as birth control. Also, the survey revealed that more teens think it's OK for an unmarried female to have a baby.

According to experts, the said findings may help explain why there hasn't been a drop in teen pregnancies in recent years. More and more teens are engaging in sexual intercourse: more than four in 10 never-married teens in the USA have had intercourse at least once.

But isn't the rhythm method of birth control not really advisable for kids? Anyways, the rhythm method only works well on women with a regular menstrual cycle. It's abstaining from sexual intercourse on the days of the woman's menstrual cycle when she could become pregnant — about the time of ovulation. So I don't see that will work on teens with raging hormones! Besides, the rhythm method doesn't protect from sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
